Web Freelancers

About Web Freelancers

It started over coffeeIt started over coffee......
Myself and my good friend Jack Castle both come from different backgrounds and have totally different skills. I am a geek according to Jack in that I am familiar with most programming languages were as Jack is more custom to graphic design and the Apple Mac. Which he keep's telling me are far superior to PC's and I am starting to believe him.

I was having a coffee with with Jack and we discussed how we had gained our clients over the last 12 years. Some had came word of mouth but most of our work had originally came through freelancer web sites. So we chatted about the pro's and con's of those sites, what we liked and what we did not like and came up with the concept of Web Freelancers.

Why just the United Kingdom?
I am a skilled web developer but when it comes to graphic design I decided to look for a freelancer (Jack was a bit busy!). My project started with "Must be based in the UK" the reason for this was I would probably need to speak to them on the phone and I did not want to run up a huge phone bill calling a different country. This was in the days before Skype.

Secondly time difference. I knew if I was going to send an email at 9am UK time to a graphic designer in say San Francisco it would not be read until 5pm UK time which is the end of the working day and the project would have taken twice as long as necessary just because San Francisco is 8 hours behind the UK

Thirdly, language, I received emails saying "Greetings, I learned English and I very good designer of graphics.......here are my designs...... (which looked like a 12 year old had created them for their school project!) - So it went in the bin.

All I wanted was a good designer, based in the UK that spoke English and did not charge the earth! People did not read my opening line "Must be based in the UK" the emails came from a list of countries that looked more like a list of competing countries for the next olympic games!

After a huge sigh and a wasted few hours every day I eventually found a good designer to carry out the work that met my criteria. They now do some work for Jack when he is busy!

So from this we set up Web Freelancers please share and let others know.

Thanks,
Tim Exley
